In 2013, IBM embarked on the biggest change in its design programs’ history. Gone were the small siloed designers spread across a 380,000 people company, and what came in was a program that gave designers the tools to be successful and build careers in product teams. In the process, 3000 professional designers were hired. This is the story from inside that growth, from someone who was there from the beginning – as the first design graduate hired into IBM UK – and who just had his 10 year anniversary at the company.
