Data visualizations are like the Wild Wild West, running the gamut from great design to misleading results, which can be critical when reporting to stakeholders and other audiences.

In this presentation, we shall go on a journey through data visualization creation to answer questions such as: how do explanatory versus exploratory vizs impact my message, how can I work towards an accessible data visualization, and what are dark patterns I should be avoiding? Grounded in the trauma of bad data viz, we will dive into the details of data visualization best practices and the dark side of data viz: dark patterns, data misrepresentation, and questionable practices that should be recognized and avoided.
