“What do you want to learn?” is an easy question for us to ask but can be deceptively difficult for stakeholders to answer.

Defining clear research objectives is the crucial first step in any user research study. It provides focus and drives the methodology.

I’ll cover what good user research objectives look like (spoiler: they don’t include words like “intuitive” and “easy to use”) and why defining them is so important. Learn techniques and activities I use with product teams and stakeholders to help define user research objectives that are specific, relevant, neutral, agreed upon, and answerable.
